Information regarding detours due to partial traffic restrictions on National Route 158 between Takayama city center and Hirayu Onsen.

NEWFrom 7:00 AM on Saturday, July 18th, large tour buses will also be able to use the detour (city road).

Until now, we had been requesting drivers to take a wide detour (approximately 2 hours or more) via National Route 41, National Route 471, or National Route 361.For large tour buses, the detour (Takayama City Road) running parallel to National Route 158 will be open to traffic from 7:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

Compared to driving on National Route 158 as usual, the additional travel time is approximately 10 minutes.

*For some large and medium-sized vehicles other than large tour buses (vehicles with a width of 2.3m or more and a length of 9m or more), please continue to use the wide-area detour route.

The route from Takayama city center to Hirayu Onsen isYou can come as usual by using the detour (Takayama City Road).Traffic congestion may occur near the detour, but it is still passable. This detour is the fastest route for regular cars and route buses.

Detour along National Route 158 (shortest route)
Detour via Takayama City Road
Before reaching the restricted traffic section, you will detour onto a city road and rejoin National Route 158. The additional travel time will be approximately 10 minutes.

If you are concerned about traffic congestion, you can also use the following alternative routes.

Alternative Route ①
Prefectural Road 76 (via Kamitakara Hongō area)
Although the distance is short, this route is best suited for experienced drivers as it involves mountain roads.
Alternative Route ②
Prefectural Road 75 (via Furukawa and Kamioka in Hida City)
This road is wide and easy to drive on. We recommend this route for those unfamiliar with mountain roads.

On February 25, 2026, a landslide occurred on National Route 158 in the Shioya district of Nyukawa-cho, Takayama City, resulting in traffic restrictions in some sections.

From Takayama city center towards the Okuhida Onsenkyo area,You can come as usual by taking the detour (Takayama City Road).In addition to regular cars and route buses, large tour buses will also be able to use the detour route from 7:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

All hot spring resorts in the Okuhida Onsenkyo area (Hirayu, Fukuchi, Shin-Hirayu, Tochio, and Shin-Hotaka), the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway, and the Abotoge Road (towards Matsumoto) are available for use as usual.

Detour via Takayama City Road
The road will be detoured onto a city road before reaching the closed section, and will rejoin National Route 158. Nohi Bus (Hirayu-Shinhotaka line), express bus (Takayama-Shinjuku line), and limited express bus (Takayama-Matsumoto line) are also operating via the same detour route. Delays may occur.

Detour via Takayama City Road (from 7:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026)
Large tour buses, which were previously asked to take a wide detour, will now be able to use the detour route (city road) from 7:00 AM on July 18th. The affected section is National Route 158 in Nyukawa-cho, Takayama City (Hinata-machi to Hataho-machi).
