Northern Alps

Okuhida Onsenkyo is surrounded by famous mountains such as the Yari-Hotaka mountain range, Mt. Norikura, and Mt. Kasagatake, the highest peak in Gifu Prefecture. These mountains are known as the "Northern Alps" and are also designated as part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park.

From Oku-Hida Onsenkyo, you can see the magnificent Northern Alps, with its chain of 3,000m-class peaks, including Mt. Yari, the Hotaka mountain range, and Mt. Norikura. The easy access to the Hida Mountains from the hot springs at the foot of the mountains makes it one of the few special locations in Japan. Using the Shinhotaka Ropeway, you can quickly ascend to an altitude of 2,156m, making it popular with beginner and intermediate albinists.

Mountain hut information
Each mountain has mountain huts for climbers. When planning a climb, it is a good idea to check the information about the huts in advance.
*Mountain hut opening periods, availability of overnight stays and tent camping, reservation methods, and clinic availability may change from year to year. Please check the official website of each mountain hut for the latest information. (The opening periods are as of 2025.)
*The clinics at Nishiho Sanso, Hotakadake Sanso, Yarigatake Sanso, and Sugorokugoya are only open during the summer.
