Hirayu Folk Museum
Hirayu Folk Museum and Hirayu no Yu are hidden gems that we highly recommend you visit when you visit Hirayu Onsen.
The Former Takakuwa House, a gassho-style house relocated from Toga Village, Toyama Prefecture, over 40 years ago, and the Former Toyosaka House, a Takayama City cultural property relocated from the Kurabashira district, are free to visit and take breaks.
The surrounding area is enveloped in the aroma of the hearth (which is always lit), making you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Another feature of this area is that it is home to a concentration of important buildings and historical sites, including the Shinohara Muzan Memorial Hall, known as the father of Hida social education, Hirayu Shrine, Yakushido Hall, and the remains of rice terraces.
The attached Hirayu no Yu bath is a day-trip bathing facility that can be used for a small fee. It is a popular outdoor bath at Hirayu Onsen, and is characterized by its brown water, known as nukutomariyu (meaning warm water). After bathing, please relax on the tatami mats in the gassho-style building.
