Yakedake Nakao Pass hiking
Mount Yakedake, the heat source of Oku-Hida Onsenkyo, is an active volcano that continues to this day, and its dynamic scenery is a real draw. The course, which takes about three hours one way from Nakao Plateau in Shinhotaka Onsen, changes from a dense forest to rugged volcanic terrain. Once you cross Nakao Pass, you'll be greeted by a spectacular view of Kamikochi below, and you can also continue down the mountain. From the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the famous peaks of the Northern Alps. This is a serious climb for intermediate climbers, where you can really feel the proximity of Oku-Hida Onsenkyo and Kamikochi.

| Precautions | In winter, snow and ice can make the mountain very dangerous. Please refrain from entering if you are not properly equipped and have sufficient experience. This is also a bear habitat. Please carry something that makes noise, such as a bell or radio. Please be sure to submit a mountain climbing notification. |
