Hirayu Otaki Freezing Festival Oku-Hida Winter Story
Hirayu Great Falls, located in Hirayu Onsen within the Chubu Sangaku National Park, is a magnificent waterfall selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. The majestic waterfall, 64 meters high and 6 meters wide, is impressive even in summer, but in winter, when the city is enveloped in harsh cold, its surface freezes over, transforming into gigantic icicles. It is truly the epitome of natural beauty.
Every winter, the "Hirayu Great Waterfall Ice Festival" is held as a light-up event. The icefall and the surrounding area are enveloped in a fantastical light, and visitors can enjoy its beauty up close from the well-maintained walking paths. Fireworks are also launched during the event, and the magnificent spectacle created by the icefall, the light-up, and the fireworks is truly breathtaking.
