Hirayu Otaki Freezing Festival Oku-Hida Winter Story
Hirayu Otaki, located in Hirayu Onsen in Chubu Sangaku National Park, is a famous waterfall that has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls. The majestic 64-meter-high, 6-meter-wide waterfall is impressive even in summer, but in the bitter cold of winter, its surface freezes and transforms into a gigantic icicle. It truly is the pinnacle of natural beauty. Every winter, the Hirayu Otaki Ice Festival, an illumination event, is held. The frozen waterfall and the surrounding area are enveloped in a mystical light, and you can enjoy its beauty up close from the well-maintained walking path. Fireworks are also launched during the event, and the spectacular sight of the frozen waterfall, illumination, and fireworks is truly breathtaking.
