Climbing Mount Norikura Kengamine (3026m above sea level)
Mount Norikura, at 3,026m above sea level, is known as one of the most easily climbed of Japan's 100 famous mountains. Take a local bus up to Tatamidaira at 2,702m above sea level, and from there it's about an hour and a half to the summit of Mount Kengamine, where one of the most spectacular views in the Japanese Alps awaits. There are multiple hiking trails to choose from, catering to all levels of fitness and goals, from beginners to experienced hikers. In the alpine zone dotted with crater lakes, the lingering snow and alpine plants create a fantastical landscape even in summer, and on clear days you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the peaks of the Northern Alps and even Mount Fuji.
