Experience

Walking around Mount Norikura

Tatamidaira, at an elevation of 2,702m, is the highest alpine zone in Japan, and spreads out immediately after you disembark from the bus. In the "flower fields" with boardwalks, alpine plants such as dicentra and anemone adzuki beans adorn the ground beneath your feet, and you can walk around in about 30 minutes. If you go a little further, you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the peaks of the Northern Alps from Mount Maou, at an elevation of 2,763m. The weather in the high mountains is changeable and the temperatures are low, so you'll need to be well-prepared, including warm clothing and rain gear, but it's a special experience that allows you to easily experience the magnificent scenery above the tree line.
